Promotional Gift Idea – Chef’s Hat to promote National Products

Here is an original promotional item I spotted when on a trip to France. The product was a Chef’s top hat. The hat was customized with pictures of famous French wines and designed with the French flag’s colors.

This promotional product is a great marketing and advertising tool to promote French culture. It is very similar concept to the French flag apron I blogged about in January. These types of products could be used for all sorts of events : wine trade shows, food trade shows, restaurant openings, culinary festivals etc. Basically it could be used by anyone wishing to promote their home country’s specialties whether they be tourist shops, government bodies, organizations, or companies in the beverage or food industry.

Following the numerous articles about licensed characters, due to the recent Licensing Show held in Hong Kong, here is a great example of how a company use them to promote its brand. Colgate, a famous toothpaste brand, has taken advantage of the new Muppet Movie coming out to boosts its sales.

It is running a gift on purchase promotion whereby each customer who buys two tubes of toothpaste receives a free bowl. The bowl is decorated with two Sesame Stree t licensed characters : Elmo and Cookie Monster. This promotion can be found in any Mannings shop in Hong Kong.

Promotional Princess Pack by Disney

Here is a promotion that should please little girls! Disney has designed a gift pack around the Princess theme. I spotted this promotion in French supermarket Carrefour. The main product is a child’s perfume but the pack also includes three in pack gifts :

A crown
Two Hair Clips
A hair comb

Disney is using three of its famous licensed characters to promote the perfume : Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Beauty from Beauty and the Beast. What’s more the whole pack has been made with bright pink colors to attract little girls’ attention in supermarkets.

While passing through French airport Charles de Gaulle, I couldn’t help stopping in front of this highly visible and eye catching apron. The apron was customized with the French flag. It was on sale in a shop dedicated to promoting French culture and specialties.

Tres Hermanas is an accessories design that would be great for promotional gifts. Tres Hermanas literally means three sisters. The licensed characters are three little bears. These three sister bears are named FE, ESPPE and CARRIE. They come from the US and date back to the 80s. The core values they represent are Love, Charity, Hardwork and Support.

Licensed Characters : Ohwho’s Green Magic Bag

ARTPLUSM created a new animation series, “Ohwho’s Green Magic Bag”, in 2011. The story revolves around two main characters : Ohwho and Nene. The evil grey cloud “moong-keuls” have eaten up children’s smiles. Ohwho (a little girl with cloud shaped hair) and Nene (Ohwho’s little blue cat) are here to help give children back their smiles. To do so they use Mr green Bag (Ohwho’s magig bag that can do just about anything include fly). To each child who has lost his smile they give a “smile pong pong” (magical flying smiley faces).

ARTPLUSM claims this animation helps get rid of children’s stress. They have made 52 x 15min episodes. Though the story is a touch bizarre the drawings are definitely very cute and appealing. One could derive all sorts of promotional products from this series. These promotional items would make great gifts on purchase for companies targeting young children or their parents.

Licensed Character : Mashimaro

Mashimaro, otherwise known in Korea as the “bizarre rabbit”, has become quite a phenomenon in recent years in Asia. He began as the main character of a series of flash animations on the net and can now be found on just about any type of promotional merchandise. Mashimaro is no regular cute licensed character. Contrarily to Miffy or Booto, he is portrayed as a fat and obnoxious little rabbit and this despite his innocent look. All this is of done with a lot of humor though!

Mashimaro is now licensed by the Total Character Business Company, that we met at the 2012 Licensing Show held in the HKCEC this week. Partner companies of the licensed character can choose just about any promotional product they want to advertise their company. Tokidoki was present at the 2012 Licensing Show held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre this week. Tokidoki is an American design company, based in Los Angeles and founded in 2003.

The brand has created a wide range of innovative licensed characters from Cocomandos and Cactus Friends to Moofia and Til Death Do Us Part. All these figures mix cute with creepy in a highly original way. The brand has become so reputed that they have partnered with prestigious names such as Karl Lagerfeld, Barbie, Levis and Fujitsu.

I was not familiar with the Japanese superhero called Ultraman until I visited the 2012 Licensing Show held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It did not long for me to realize that he id THE Japanese superhero to know !

Ultraman Promotional Gifts

The licensed character, Ultraman, was the central figure of a Japanese television series that dates back to 1966. The story is set in the future (the 90s to be exact. Well ok now its the past to us…) in Tokyo. The Science Patrol is a global entity always ready to protect the Earth from rampaging monsters. Sometimes it finds itself outclassed. When the situation becomes desperate, Shin Hayata, the Patrol’s most capable member, holds the key to salvation in the form of the “beta capsule,” which, when ignited, allows him to transform secretly into the super-humanoid-powered giant from space, who becomes known to the people of Earth as Ultraman.

The superhero became a huge success all over Asia and even in America. Hundreds of products have been derived from the original TV series. These products make great promotional items for brands targeting kids and their parents or even adults in general as most probably grew up with this show.
